1. Last night, the always brilliant Lawrence O’Donnell shared a fitting nickname for our dictator. He referred to Trump, who operates more like a corrupt Mafia boss than a president, as Donnie “Two Dolls.” The reason for the nickname? Yesterday, the severely malignant narcissist in the WH told the country that his tariffs just means kids will get only 2 dolls instead of 30 for Christmas. His remark was a perfect illustration of the disdain that autocrat Trump and his entire sycophantic administration have for the people they are supposed to work for. They are a bunch of cruel, wealthy narcissists who will never have to struggle to pay their bills. They see us simply as movable objects in their games of power and wealth accumulation. That is why we protest and march!
2. More than 800 rallies around the country and hundreds more around the globe will take place today. As I discussed in my SubStack on Tuesday, May Day is traditionally a day to recognize labor. Today, however, it takes on a bigger purpose as a National Day of Action against an authoritarian regime that is intentionally and chaotically destroying democracy.
3. I am a big fan of Adam Kinzinger. Ostracized by his Republican Party for choosing the Constitution and Democracy over tyranny, he refused to give up his principles. On his SubStack recently he said, “We march to war with the army we have.” In other words, we set aside our differences to fight together against the oppression and lawless cruelty of an authoritarian regime. Every week, the rallies get larger and the marchers more diverse.
I like Kinzinger, too. He's smart and also humble, while offering motivation and insight into what's going on nowadays,
