At a time of deep budget cuts and employee layoffs, the dumbest, least qualified, most dangerous Secretary of HHS wants the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to devote time, energy, and funds to find ways to treat measles in unvaccinated children.
Yes, you read that correctly! In fact, a Kennedy spokesperson told CBS that the entire agency has been ordered to use their limited budget to find drugs and vitamins, for measles and other diseases, that can be used as alternative treatments to vaccines.
The mandate from Kennedy comes in spite of a statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics (APA) that there is no cure for measles, and vaccination is the only way to prevent the highly infectious disease that can cause serious health complications or death in some cases.
During the short time he has been in charge, Kennedy has consistently promoted the use of antibiotics and vitamin A to treat measles. It is crazy that, in the year 2025, a crackpot who isn’t a doctor or scientist is pushing ineffective, and potentially dangerous, alternatives. The current measles epidemic will undoubtedly continue and, with the end of USAID, it will most likely spread internationally.
Wouldn’t a concerted effort to increase production and promotion of vaccines, known universally to be effective, be a better use of our CDC employees and budget?
All I can say is, when you confirm a crackpot conspiracy theorist to lead HHS, expect increases in contagious diseases and embarrassment on the world stage.
There’s so much crazy going on in the authoritarian regime, but that’s all from me today. I am finally able to drive after more than a month rehabbing a fractured knee. I am going to catch up on errands over the weekend, and see what good trouble I can find! Mad Mother will be back on Monday!
